I don’t think there’s another tearoom like this in Edinburgh. Glass caddies of tea are arranged on shelves by type: black, green, red, yellow, fruit… There are also jars of herbs and spices. Magdalena, the owner of Tea Collection, encourages customers to open the caddies and smell the contents, then you can blend your own cuppa. She’s also happy to offer her expert advice on which combinations work well.
I chose a blend of oolong, lemongrass and rose petals. It was light and fragrant. Lucy took darjeeling and bilberry tea. We enjoyed our drinks so much that afterwards, we both bought packets of tea to take away with us.
Magdalena does a little bit of homebaking but her passion is for tea and that’s what you should come here for. We tried to convince her to hold a tea tasting evening and Lucy even went as far as to suggest how the furniture should be rearranged to accommodate more people. You see, we already consider ourselves tearoom experts!
We’ll definitely be going back. This unique experience of creating your own tea and chatting with a connoiseur is well worth a jaunt into Leith.
